Norfolk, VA (November 24th, 2024) – At Virginia Skyline, coaching isn’t just about winning games—it’s about shaping futures. Coach John Parker’s journey into coaching is one fueled by passion, inspiration, and a deep belief that soccer is more than a game; it’s a way of life.
Inspired to Lead
John’s path to coaching began with a nudge from those who knew him best. “My former teammates, now coaches and directors, told me how much they enjoyed it and thought I’d excel in it,” he shares. What started as a suggestion became a calling, a way to channel his love for the game into something meaningful for others.
For John, soccer is an experience that transcends the field. “5,400 seconds of multiple synchronized, calculated decisions, all leading to one moment, two decisions, thirty seconds. Constant emotional, physical, and mental fluctuation, all for that one moment, one final decision. Millions around the world watch, cheer, and hope,” he reflects passionately.
“To some, soccer is just a game. But here, this is not a game—this is life. Let’s live life during soccer. In the moment, nothing else matters.”
The Power of Inspiration
When it comes to coaching, John’s primary goal is simple yet profound: inspire. “We strive for players to have the utmost confidence in everything they do,” he emphasizes. Through individualized development plans, John fosters personal growth, ensuring that each player excels not just on the field, but in life.
“We use soccer as a catalyst to support them throughout their life’s journey,” he explains. “Our hope is to instill a love for the game that they carry with them forever.”
Building a Stronger Community
For John, the club’s mission extends far beyond competition. “By teaching lessons that apply on and off the field, soccer becomes a catalyst for personal growth and self-discovery,” he says. Virginia Skyline provides a space where players not only develop their skills but also learn valuable life lessons.
“I want to provide a place where more players get to enjoy a sport that can change the course of their lives.”
